What material is used to make the caps?

EIO’s CAPS have gone through rigorous testing by a distinguished consumer agency named Intertek Group PLC. Intertek is the leading quality & safety partner for many of the world's best-known brands. Intertek is the accredited world leader in the testing, inspection and certification of consumer goods and manages two-thirds of all global retailers' supply chains. All of our CAPS are BPA free made from number “5" Polypropylene plastic.

What material is used to make the sleeve?

Our SLEEVES are made from Silicone, and are designed to provide an easy to grip, protective surface for our toddlers whether they are drinking warm or cold beverages. The sleeve helps protect the glass from breakage, provides an extra graspable surface, and allows children to see the amount of liquid inside the jar.

Other facts on the SLEEVE: Silicone is an inert material and does not react with food or beverages, or produce any hazardous fumes. Most importantly, it is non-toxic, hypo allergenic and best of all – it does not promote bacteria or fungus growth.

Good news to parents, since we know our SLEEVE will be touched by little hands that may be dirty, Silicone will not become a haven for bacteria or fungus growth because it does not have any open pores. Silicone has a high heat resistance and can be boiled to sterilize. It is also top-rack dishwasher safe.

Silicone is made up of  polymers that include silicon together with carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and sometimes other chemical elements. Silicon is a natural element present in sand, quartz and rock, which, after oxygen, is the most abundant element on earth. Silicon is altered into silicone when combined with oxygen, carbon and hydrogen.

How does the EIO Kids Cup cap work best?

Our cap is a single unit, designed to be easy to wash, promote healthy dental and speech development. Our cap doesn't contain any valves. Create a tight seal with your EIO Kids Cup cap. The threads perform best when tightened securely to the canning jar.

Why use a canning jar?

Canning jars are cheap as chips and the perfect size for little hands.  They are durable and wash easily.  A simple lid to help teach the little ones healthy drinking habits seemed obvious.

They are made in America by a trusted glass manufacture with over 40 years of experience. There are many 8 ounce canning jar manufacturers and our caps and sleeve are designed to fit them all.

Since the canning jar is a staple of American food preserving, EIO sought to reuse the jar as an effort cut manufacturing strains on our environment. Glass is easily recyclable and when your children out grow an 8 ounce jar reuse it for canning!

Can I microwave the Kids Cup?

No. The Kids Cup is not microwavable.

Is the Kids Cup dishwasher safe?

YES, place your cup and sleeve on the top rack of your dishwasher. After the intial washing, the sleeve can be left on the jar for future dishwashing or hand-washing. EIO recommends taking it off to clean from time to time. We recommend allowing the sleeve to dry completely before reapplying to the cup. EIO's cap is best washed with warm soapy water.

How do I apply the sleeve to the cup?

Only parents, caregivers or adults can put on or take off the sleeve. Place the top of the sleeve at the bottom of the cup. Tap it on using the palm of your hand. When it no longer slides on grab the cup and twist it a few times to slide it up the until the bottom of the sleeve exposes the bottom of the jar enough for your jar to slide. Your Kids Cup should slide easily on counter tops.

Can I put warm or cold beverages in the Kids Cup?

Yes, the Kids Cup is glass and has a protective sleeve making it perfect warm or cold drinks. Your Kids Cup is not microwave safe. It is not advised or endorsed by EIO Products, LLC to place hot liquids in the hands of children. Test the temperature of all liquids before allowing young children to consume.

Can I put smoothies or juice in the Kids Cup?

YES. The Kids Cup is simple – cup and cap – no small crevices to hide left over OJ pulp or bits of that strawberry smoothie. Genius!

Why does it need a silicon sleeve?

The silicone sleeve’s easy-grip surface is made for little hands and its1.5 mm thickness helps protect the 8 oz. glass jar from breaking. Only adults should take off or put on the silicone sleeve.

Where’s the spout?

You mean the bit young children chew?  Spouts encourage suckling rather than the natural motion of sipping. Plus, researchers have determined that spouts with valves can be detrimental to dental development.

Why is there no valve?

Because research suggests that any child over the age of 1 year SHOULD NOT use a cup with a valve. Sucking from a valve rather than sipping may be detrimental to dental development.  Not to mention valves harbor mold and are easily lost.

Can I buy extra caps, sleeves and jars?

Yes, coming September 2010, caps and sleeves will be sold as sets and individually. You may purchase replacement jars from any major grocery store. Bonus!

Why not just use a cup?

Good Luck with that, splash.

So it’s not spill proof?

Neither is a plate, but we teach our children to use it. EIO encourages healthy habits and seeks to teach children mealtime skills.

Can I use the cap on other brands of canning jars?

Yes. Yes. Yes.

Is the Kids Cup patented?

The patent is pending.
